SAGE Profile 3D interface and finite element engine (SimPipe) have both been validated using test cases. Test cases cover all the features and possible combination of runs.
Three levels of validation have been used to validate all SimPipe features:
- Level 1: beam examples
- Level 2: non-linearities & advanced engine features
- NAFEMS geometric non-linearity examples
- Pipeline steering / time integration / etc.
- Upheaval buckling
- Comparison with Abaqus & Hobbs (1981)
- Checked onset and post-buckling shape
- Lateral buckling
- Level 3: realistic examples compared with FE simulations and real survey data
The Software Verification and Validation Reports (SVVR) contain all the test cases that have been run to validate the interface and the finite element engine. The reports are available on the SP3D installation CD.
SP3D validation has been reviewed and approved by Bureau Veritas. Additionally, Bureau Veritas ran independent check to satisfy themselves about the accuracy of the results. Both interface and finite element engine have been certified by Bureau Veritas.
