SAGE Profile V2.3 is under development!

This new version will include many new features related to FE engine. Some of those are detailed below.

New features in SAGE Profile V2.3:

  • Load application for buckling pipelines, a new method for load application has been developed in addition of the two methods already existing in SAGE Profile (i.e. linear and quasi‐static loading). The new method termed “quasi‐static loading using interval‐based method” monitors the “relative” kinetic energy within the system over a certain time interval. The method is very well adapted for the analysis of pipelines where many buckles are likely to develop.
  • Local refinement ability, allowing the user to refine the pipeline mesh locally to improve the accuracy of the analysis. As an example, this option can be advantageously used to improve the accuracy of free span predictions in areas where rough seabed is expected.
  • Improved lateral springs, via a new eXternal Soil Pipe Interaction Model (XSPIM) that has been implemented in SAGE Profile. The new XSPIM model offers the same features as XSPIM 5 (e.g. plastic unloading, modeling of installation effects, etc) but includes in addition a penetration related coupling for the lateral spring. This coupling allows to automatically calculate the lateral resistance as a function of the embedment avoiding the need to define several equivalent friction factors for each design cases.
  • Modeling of buried pipes, via the trenching module, the first of several developments toward the implementation of a rectifier module similar to SP2D one. The trenching module allows users to create a trench profile from the original seabed data. Once the trench profile is defined, the program will progressively lay the pipeline in the trench. Backfill is modeled using non linear "smart" springs. Unlike conventional uniformly distributed loads (UDL), the backfill soil springs (BFSS) allow a proper characterization of the backfill behavior. Parameters like the peak mobilization distance can now be considered in the analysis. This offers interesting perspectives for upheaval buckling analyses and the assessment of the optimum backfill cover height.
  • Autosave during calculation, or Automatic Saving option, offers the ability to restart an analysis from a restart file. Restart files will be created whenever a fixed time (user defined) has elapsed. This will allow the user to restart the analysis from the last saved restart file and modify, and/or adjust FE parameters before resuming the analysis. This option will allow users to save significant computation time in case of abnormal termination of the program (e.g. power shut down, computer crash, etc).

 

Recent features developed:
  • Advanced Boundary Conditions, apply a fixity, one sided fixity, a spring or a single displacement in any Degree Of Freedom at node. Allows to introduce Flow Line End Terminations and Inline Tee Assemblies into your model,
  • Quasi Static Loading, advanced load control ensures that loads are applied in a quasi static manner,
  • Non linear bending: elastic piece-wise linear stress/strain and moment/curvature relations can be defined (besides the existing Ramberg Osgood curves),
  • Hydrodynamic Force definition, define your currents in terms of height above seabed, direction and magnitude and the corresponding drag force is automatically applied to the pipeline,
  • Fixed Camera View Point, position the camera anywhere in space and monitor the evolution of a buckle, span, etc. during the analysis,
  • Mass scaling, factor the response of the model (i.e. the accelerations) to allow to use a bigger time step and run the simulation in less time.
