SAGE Profile 3D – SP3D – has specifically been developed to assist pipeline engineers during the subsea pipeline route optimization process. Its features set has been fine-tuned to provide an excellent basis for tasks such as:
- Pipeline route optimization; - Static free span evaluation; - On-bottom stress analysis (OOS analysis); - Expansion analysis; - Upheaval/lateral buckling analyses.
Digital terrain model (DTM) can be directly imported (different formats are supported). Once imported, 3D view and contour maps allow to have a clear understanding of the seabed morphology. The laydown procedure is very close to a real S/J-lay and the pipe is laid onto the DTM. Thanks to the FE engine viewer, results can be viewed in real time in 3D. It allows to anticipate laydown issue (e.g. sharp bend) and have a better understanding of the seabed related problems along the proposed route (e.g. side slopes).
Once the pipeline has been laid, several analyses can be run to simulate the different life cycles of the pipeline (hydrotest, operation, shutdown…). All the results of the analyses can be viewed in 3D and in 2D charts.
SP3D runs an explicit finite element solver specially developed for pipeline analysis.
